What is Montessori?

Montessori is an integral educative approach created to guide children on their build-up throughout their growth from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori created this educative approach based on her observations and comprehension of children’s natural learning tendencies within arranged environments and divided them in different groups based on age mixtures.

Montessori Method is separated in various development stages in which children will absorb information naturally, and will learn with support of materials made specifically to make him or her participate in whatever activities he him or herself wishes.

Under supervision of a Montessori Method trained teacher, children learn my means of handling their materials, cultivating concentration, inspiration, discipline and love for learning for the rest of their lives. Chidren work independently with these materials, which are appropiate for every stage of growth.

Children receive group and individual lessons with these materials. This reference has its roots under the belief that children within a Montessori environment learn by themselves, instead of relying on an adult to do so. They’re guided to choose whichever materials are best for every particular stage of growth, allowing for his or her best capacities and abilities to be honed to their best.

When a child takes on a lesson, they may work with the material as much as they like. Repetition is key in Montessori lessons, since it allows the child to dominate the ability for which the material was created in the first place.

Montessori education is not just a method; it’s a way of life. Dr. Maria Montessori believed education was preparation for life, not simply a search for intelectual skills.
